Support Global Links while you shop for that perfect Mother’s Day or graduation gift. Fair trade retailer Ten Thousand Villages in Squirrel Hill will donate a percentage of all purchases between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on April 28, 2012 to Global Links as part of our joint Community Shopping Night.
The more people buy, the greater the percentage we will earn to help sustain Global Links’ programs of medical relief and environmental stewardship. Your purchase also helps support local artisans around the world, so it “gives back” in many ways.
Global Links staff will be there to talk with you about our programs here at home as well as around the world. Stop by to say hello!

Most of you know that Global Links works primarily in countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. If you’d like to experience some of the arts, crafts, dancing, music and food of the region without leaving Pittsburgh, consider attending the 32nd Latin America and Caribbean Festival sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh Center for Latin American Studies on Saturday, March 31. The festival is free and open to the public and is held on Pitt’s campus at the William Pitt Union building.
You can stop by the Global Links table as we’ll be there from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Bring some cash so you can sample all the great ethnic food for sale and do some shopping at the craft tables. Children’s activities are from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Enjoy the free music and dance performances. Dancing continues until midnight!
For the festival program, visit the festival website.

Angelina is one of our dedicated student volunteers who sorts and packs life saving medical supplies everyweek at our sorting center. She traveled in February with Hope to Hispaniola to the Dominican Republic, bringing healthcare and other support to villages of Dominicans and Haitians working in the sugar cane fields near the town of La Higuero. Global Links staff packed several boxes of medical supplies to be hand carried to the D.R. and used in the clinics set up by the doctor and several nurses traveling on this particular trip.
